The Fire Danger Period for Knox City Council, Manningham Council, Maroondah City Council and Yarra Ranges Council will be lifted as of 1am Tuesday 11th April 2023.
If you burn off after the conclusion of the Fire Danger Period, please be mindful that it is easy to lose control of your small burn-off. You can refer to the CFA brochure ‘Are you burning off safely?’
to ensure your burn remains safe and legal. Take care and make sure you have water available at all times and never leave your burn-off unattended.
Before lighting a burn-off, we urge residents to always notify their neighbours and register their burn either online via firepermits.vic.gov.au or by calling the Burn-Off Notification Line on 1800 668 511.
Always check and adhere to your council’s local laws and regulations before burning off.
For more information, see the CFA website
2023 is set to be a big year for the Brigade as it celebrates its 100th Birthday.
We intend to establish an online collection and overhaul our physical collection of memorabilia. The brigade will also produce an historical book based on the last 25 years.
This is a unique opportunity for you to share your memories – we know there are a lot out there.
With many of us spending more time at home, there is a fantastic opportunity to dust out the old photo albums and scramble through the attic. Maybe grandad’s old chest has some hidden treasures that need to see the light of day. We are on the lookout for photos, historical records, memorabilia, memories, anecdotes (the funnier the better) and stories whether written or oral; anything that contributes to capturing brigade and community history.
If you want to take part, submissions can be forwarded to belgravebrigade100@gmail.com or ring James on 0466 249409 to arrange a contact-free drop off or pick up. All contributions will be catalogued to ensure safe return and accredited appropriately if published.

Come and join the Belgrave Fire Brigade.
We have a great mix of members from very different backgrounds and age groups. If you have ever thought you might want to be a firefighter, now is the time to find out what is involved. You might be surprised at what you can do.
A firefighter responds to all sorts of emergencies. Car accidents, gas leaks, hazardous material spills and many other types of incident. We also respond to fires of course. And yes, this brigade has rescued a cat or two from local trees (although we recommend you call the RSPCA or local vet for their advice before calling for us).
You will be trained extensively and get to know your fellow firefighters before you come out on a fire call. By that time you will be reasonably confident in your own ability and you will be paired with some very experienced firefighters.
We offer full training at no cost to you, and are currently seeking senior and junior members.
Contact us if you would like to talk to someone about joining our brigade.
Please note that as a volunteer fire brigade, the station is not always occupied and there is often no one available to take phone calls. An email to this address will ensure a reply.
We'll be in contact shortly.
Belgrave Fire Brigade, 4 Bayview Rd, Belgrave VIC 3160, Australia
Nestled in the Dandenong Ranges, Belgrave is in one of the most bushfire-prone regions in the world. We believe that it is also one of the most beautiful.
Close to the centre of Belgrave and Puffing Billy Railway Station, the volunteers of Belgrave Fire Brigade protect homes, businesses and the dense surrounding bushland.
As a Fire Brigade consisting entirely of volunteers, the Brigade members receive no money for the many hours we spend training and responding to emergencies.
Some of the jobs we attend can take an hour while others can take many. We could also be sent to a major incident within Victoria or interstate. This may mean that members must take a week off work. Many employers recognise the amazing and necessary work done by volunteers and assist their employees where they are able.
As well as fires, the Brigade responds to motor vehicle accidents, animal rescues, gas leaks, floods, tree and storm damage incidents and assists other emergency services such as the SES, Ambulance and Police.
As volunteers we are 'on call' at all times. There are no set shifts, every member responds whenever they can. This is rarely at a convenient time for volunteers, and more than one or two evening meals have been eaten cold or hastily microwaved hours after they were made.
In our spare time, members are constantly raising funds for new equipment to enable us to continue to respond to the needs of our community in a timely, effective and professional manner. The demands and responsibilities of volunteering are great, but so are the rewards.
Belgrave Fire Brigade has a rich history dating back to 1923 and it has been beautifully documented in the book "Belgrave Volunteer Fire Brigade, Our History". If you wish to learn more about the history of the Brigade from 1923 to 2002, the book is available for $10. Please email your contact details with the subject line "History Book" and you may organise a time to pick it up, or we will reply with the postage cost if you would prefer it to be posted.
